Préfecture
Around the Hôtel de Préfecture des Bouches du Rhône, an 1866 building typical of the Napoleon III style, this district is one of the liveliest and most commercial in Marseille.
Served by the metro and numerous bus lines, it is home to the Place Estrangin, a symbol of Marseille’s wealth in the 19th century, the shopping and pedestrian street Saint-Ferréol, as well as the Antiques district around the rue Edmond Rostand.
Four times a year “les journées d’Antiquités Brocante” are organized there: the stores are then open, the street becomes pedestrian. And it is the occasion to stroll in the city center and to do some shopping after a gourmet break at the Bistrot Saint-Jacques.
